Blast axe falls on 4 guards

Four security guards of Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) were suspended on Friday over the July 7 blasts.

Gaya district magistrate-cum-BTMC chairman Balamurugan D. ordered their suspension. The security personnel, including permanent guards Rajendra Yadav, Sunder Singh and Srikant Singh besides, Lalan Singh, who was hired on daily-wage basis were on duty from 10am on July 6 to 6am on July 7.

The axe fell after the BTMC decided to terminate the contract of Cobra, the private security agency that used to man internal security at Mahabodhi Mahavihara.

Four bombs went off on the Mahabodhi Mahavihara campus from 5:40:26am on an interval of every two minutes on July 7. BTMC secretary Nangzey Dorjee had sought an explanation from the four guards through a showcause notice served to them on July 8.

On the other hand, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has not released the person detained on Wednesday evening from Bela village under Barachatti police station area. Sources said NIA officers interrogated the person on Friday too.

The person, whose actions raised doubts among the locals, is said to be mentally disturbed. Residents of the area had handed him over to Barachatti police on Wednesday.
