Revised allowance for brave policemen

The home ministry has increased the monthly allowance for the recipients of the President’s police medal for gallantry and the police medal for gallantry awards with effect from May 10 this year.

General secretary of the All India Police Gallantry Medal Awardees Welfare Association Shridhar Mandal on Tuesday said: “The monthly allowance for the President’s police medal for gallantry awardees had been raised from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000. The police medal for gallantry awardees would, too, enjoy a rise in the monthly allowance from Rs 900 to Rs 2,000. The ministry of home affairs issued a notification on May 10.”

Mandal said around 5,000 recipients of these two awards and their relatives would benefit from this directive.

Those who have received these awards for more than once would get the maximum benefit. The police personnel receiving the President’s police medal for gallantry award twice, would get a monthly allowance of Rs 6,000.

The money paid to the recipients had been exempted from income tax. “Around 200 policemen were awarded with these two medals, considered to be the highest honour for the police for bravery and courage,” Mandal said.
