Calcutta: With Brendon McCullum finally joining the Kolkata Knight Riders, in Bangalore, late on Tuesday night, the Gautam Gambhir-led side received a timely boost ahead of their match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Thursday.
After opening their IPL-VI campaign with a confident six-wicket win against the Delhi DareDevils, the Knight Riders were outsmarted by the Rajasthan Royals by 19 runs, on Monday.
“McCullum will be joining the team in Bangalore. He is likely to join practice with the rest of the team at the Chinnaswamy stadium,” a media release said.
The New Zealand captain missed the Knight Riders’ first two matches of IPL-VI because of injury.
McCullum had pulled his hamstring during the drawn third Test against England, in Auckland, late last month.
McCullum, who holds the record for the highest score (158) in the IPL, is already scheduled to have a truncated IPL stint this season, as he will lead New Zealand on their tour of England.
McCullum has 1,233 runs in 47 IPL games at an average of 28. Apart from the Knight Riders, he also represented the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, in 2011.
