Oil India beat ONGC, lift trophy

Guwahati, March 17: Hosts Oil India Ltd (A) won the 33rd PSPB Inter-Unit Football Tournament title, defeating Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd 2-1 in the final at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan yesterday.

Zaidin Hmar put the home side a goal ahead in the 20th minute but the lead was short-lived as F. Lalmunpuia of ONGC restored parity just four minutes later.

The match was evenly poised all throughout.

It was almost heading for extra time and penalty shootout when F. Wary fired in the all-important goal in the last minute of regulation time.

Earlier in the day, OIL Team (B) emerged third, defeating Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (Assam Oil Division) 3-0 in the playoff match.

Bhim Kanta Sonowal and Bhupen Gogoi put the OIL (B) ahead in the first half with a goal each in the 18th and 25th minutes respectively and Tridip Khound ruffled the net for another goal in the 50th minute.

F. Wary of OIL A was named the Best Player of the tournament.
