Robbers held in Barhi

Hazaribagh, Feb. 23: Three inter-state robbers — including their leader who used the alias Laden — were arrested last night in Barhi, following which police unearthed a mini-gun factory in Nawada district of Bihar this afternoon.

Hazaribagh superintendent of police (SP) Manoj Kaushik told The Telegraph Vijay Choudhary, alias, Laden, Rajesh Manjhi, residents of Nawada, and Vipin Kumar of Gaya were nabbed around 8pm near Barhi Chowk, 40 km from the district headquarters.

A Barhi police team, which was tipped off about plans made by the trio to loot a prominent businessman in the area, also recovered three countrymade pistols, 19 rounds of live cartridges and four mobile handsets.

The three, said to be between 35 and 40, were later grilled at Barhi police station. Based on their revelations, a police team was sent to Nawada to conduct searches.

Police sources said Choudhary, a veteran criminal who was involved in several cases of kidnapping and dacoity, owned the gun factory.

Kaushik said after getting information from trio, he alerted his Nawada counterpart and rushed a team.

“We have registered a separate case related to the gun factory in Nawada police station,” he added.

The police also recovered a carbine, five rounds of cartridges and materials used in making arms at the gun factory.
