Manipur Police ride to victory

Imphal, Feb. 19: Police rider M. Jawan Singh hit the winning goal for Manipur Police Sports Club to gallop home to a 4-3 goal victory against Tekcham Polo Club in the 28th N. Hazari and Dr N. Tombi Memorial Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Jawan Singh enabled the policemen to walk away with Rs 20,000 and the trophy while Tekcham Polo Club got Rs 15,000. In the initial stages of the game, Tekcham Polo Club gave the policemen a tough time.

Jawan Singh scored the opening goal for Manipur Police in the first chukker. However, Tekcham Polo rider M. Manihar Singh equalised soon after.

In the third chukker, Manipur Police raced ahead with M. Surjit Singh slamming home his teamís second goal but P. Ojit Singh fetched the equaliser in the third chukker.

With Tekcham Polo taking the upper hand in the fourth chukker, M. Doren Singh hit home the leading goal. However, Police rider S. Bimol managed to hit home the equaliser. Jawan Singh provided the decisive goal for the victory today.

Manipur Police rider M. Somorjit Singh was Player of the Tournament.
