Gold for Tata Steel boxers

Tata Steelís Madhusudan Soy and Vizag Steel Plantís M.R. Guwansi punched their way to gold medals on Thursday in the sub-junior boysí category of the ongoing Inter-Steel Plant Boxing Championship. The tournament is underway at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

In the final bout of the D4 weight category, Soy floored V. Lavanya of Vizag Steel Plant to bag the yellow medal while Guwansi got the better of Bhilai Steel Plantís D. Manish.

In other matches of the day, Tata Steelís Ujjwal Sharma out-punched Soheeb Hauuk of Indian Iron and Steel Company in the semifinals of the A10 weight category, with his team-mate S. Soy also tasting success against Md Sazzad of Durgapur Steel Plant during the D1 category last four bout.

In the other semi-final matches, Durgapurís Sunil Kumar, K. Shyam Kumar and Rahul Kumar advanced to the finals by outclassing their opponents in the B9, A12 and B6 weight categories.

Later during the day, Bhilaiís Sameer Khan had the last laugh against Md Raj of Durgapur in the A 10 weight section whereas his teammate Dinesh Sahu overcame Vizagís G. Hari Krishna in A 11 weight category.

Around 150 pugilists from six steel plants of the country are taking part in the three-day meet.
