Calcutta: Unlike in the Ranji Trophy, Bengal have done pretty well in the limited-overs tournament for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
But with this season’s meet (zonal leg) set to begin on Thursday, Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla wants his team to focus on the task ahead and not sit back on the laurels.
“There’s no room for complacency in the shorter format... We may have done well in the one-dayers over the last few years, but things can change very quickly… It can go against us this time if we don’t focus on our job,” Shukla warned on Tuesday.
Bengal have had very few problems in the zonal leg with teams like Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand and Tripura not being very strong as opponents.
Shukla, however, feels that the difference between Bengal and the other the teams is gradually decreasing.
“At present, I don’t think any team can call themselves to be the favourites. Each of the teams comprise of all-rounders who can be game-changers on their day… So we will have to watch out,” he said.
