Youth found hanging from tree at Doranda

A youth was found hanging from a tree at Ghaghra in Doranda police station area, about 12km from the Ranchi district headquarters, on Monday morning.

Local residents spotted the body around 10.30am and informed police, who suspect suicide. The body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem.

“We are yet to ascertain the identity of the dead. The youth appeared to be a labourer in the age group of 25-30. No one has turned up to claim the body,” said officer in charge of Doranda police station Fozail Ahmed.

Asked about their initial suspicion, Ahmed said: “Though primary investigations suggest that it is a case of suicide as there was no injury mark on the body and the hands were also not tied, we are waiting for the post-mortem report to arrive at a conclusion. Also, we are waiting for someone to come and claim the body.”

As of now, police have registered a case of unnatural death but will convert it into murder if they get evidence of foul play.

In another development, a murder case was registered after a tobacco dealer was beaten to death by a group of villagers at Soso, Ratu, on the city’s outskirts late on Sunday night. Narayan Sao (60), a resident of Birla Boarding, had gone to the village with his friend Abhisekh Singh to collect the money he had lent to a local. Singh sustained head injuries in the incident.

SP (rural) Asim Vikrant Minz confirmed the incident, saying that though no one was named in the FIR, those who had beaten up Sao and Singh had been identified and would be arrested soon.
