Navajyoti claim top spot

Guwahati, Jan. 20: Navajyoti Club lifted the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament title, defeating Bud Cricket Club by 86 runs in the final at Judges Field here last evening.

In the day/night encounter, Navajyoti elected to bat first and posted 237 for seven in the 50 overs.

Bud, however, missed the services of most of their key players, as nine of them were engaged in the Assam state team selection trials for the Vijay Hazare Trophy limited over tournament, to be bowled out for 157 in 41.1 overs.

Abhinab Konwar topscored for Navajyoti Club with 69 runs.

Debabrata Roy, Jitu Baishya and Jogeswar Bhumij of Bud bagged two each.

For Bud, Jogeswar Bhumij topscored with 27 runs.

Spinners Bhaskar Barman and Bikash Chetri of Navajyoti Club bagged three wickets.

Abhinab Konwar also picked up two for 21 to be named Man of the Match.

Tarjinder Singh of Bud was named the Man of the Tournament and his teammate Gokul Sharma the Best Batsman.

Abir Chakraborty of River Rine Club was named the Best Bowler and Genesis Club the Most Promising Club.
