Guwahati, Jan. 17: Ranji player Arlen Konwar has hinted at playing for another state as guest player in the next Ranji season, disappointed at being dropped from the probables in the state selection trials for the Vijay Hazare Trophy East Zone limited overs cricket tournament.
Disclosing this to The Telegraph over phone from his Sivasagar residence, the most successful spinner of the state in the last Ranji Trophy group C campaign described the dropping as an “injustice” and said he has got offers from other states, which he might consider for the next year.
Konwar tallied 31 wickets from eight matches in the last season and completed 200 first class wickets to be the first ever from the state. “I believe I have got a couple of years more of cricket left in me and I am not going to hang up my boots when I am still in peak form. I am told some vested interests are working against me in the Assam Cricket Association,” Konwar said.
“I would like to thank the ACA for giving me the opportunity to achieve the feat of 200 wickets playing for my home state,” he said.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy trials will be held at Nehru Stadium here from tomorrow. Altogether 26 probables have been invited to the camp. The zonal tournament will be held in Agartala from February 14.
Apart from Konwar, all-rounder Dhiraj Goswami has not been called for the trials. Goswami tallied six wickets and scored 63 runs from three matches he was fielded in the last Ranji Trophy season.
According to ACA secretary Bikash Baruah, Konwar was not considered for the trials “because he has put on some extra weight” while Goswami “could not perform against Goa in the last match in Goa”.
