Trader shot at in Karbi Anglong

Nagaon, Dec. 27: Suspected Karbi militants shot and injured a businessman in an Adivasi-dominated village near the Karbi Anglong-Golaghat inter-district border last night.

Around 11pm, three men in army fatigues visited the Sariahjan Kathalguri residence of one Bileswar Mahatu and asked family members to send him out for a discussion.

Bileswar’s younger brother, Sanjay, told the group that his brother was out of station and asked why they had come.

“All of a sudden, they shot Sanjay with sophisticated weapons and left,” said Nanda Chauhan, a local. An injured Sanjay was taken to a nursing home in Dimapur. He is stated to be out of danger.

Police suspect the involvement of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers in the incident.
