Calcutta: Formidables reigned supreme as they regained the coveted Ruia Gold Trophy, on the penultimate day of the 54th Winter National Bridge Championship, here on Saturday. Formidables (171) beat Ashok Ruia’s Indian Blues (138) by 33 IMPs.
In the first session of 14 boards, Formidables lagged behind by five IMPs. But in the second they earned 52 IMPs as against 22 logged by the Indian Blues. This ultimately proved decisive.
In the next session, Formidables consolidated its position by adding further 11 IMPs to their account.
In the final session, Indian Blues could manage a slender margin of four IMPs. But it was too little too late.
The Holkar Pairs elimination rounds was completed on Saturday and the final will be played on Sunday, the last day of the Nationals.
