Rajdeep replaces Kunal

Guwahati, Dec. 19: Wicketkeeper-batsman Rajdeep Das has replaced Kunal Saikia in the Assam squad for the next Ranji Trophy match against Andhra Pradesh to be played here from Saturday.

Das, who had twisted his ankle ahead of the match against Jammu and Kashmir here on December 1, had missed the last two matches and Saikia, who had performed impressively for the Assam A team, was called in as a replacement.

The other members of team are Dheeraj Jadhav (captain), Pallav Das, Pritam Debnath, Sibsankar Roy, Amit Sinha, Tarjinder Singh, Gokul Sharma, Chandan Rawat, Dhiraj Goswami, Syed Mohammad, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Arup Das, Arlen Konwar and Deepak Gohain.

Under-13 cricket

Hailakandi will meet Sivasagar in the inaugural match of the 1st Umananda Bora Trophy under-13 inter-district cricket tournament at Barsapara stadium here tomorrow.

The meet was introduced recently in the memory of Bora, the former cricketer and joint secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, in a bid to scout young talents, who can be groomed at the Assam Cricket Academy.

Altogether 27 districts are participating in the tournament to be held at the Barsapara stadium, with Nehru Stadium as the other venue.

“The tournament will also help check age-fudging, since a player once registered for this tournament will not be able to change his date of birth in the future,” ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said today.
