Top seeds make it to quarters

Guwahati, Dec. 11: The top eight seeds today made it to the quarter-finals of the 1st AITA Talent Series (under-16) boys’ tennis tournament under way at the Nagaland Tennis Association complex at Kuda village in Dimapur.

In the single setter pre-quarterfinals played today, top seed Siddharth Choudhury of Assam eased past state mate Tanay Bagree 9-2 and second seed Vitizolie Negi of Nagaland tamed Assam opponent Anshuman Phukan 9-1.

Third seed Jugal Boruah of Assam prevailed over Nagaland boy Nousi Kire 9-1 while fourth seed Mayank Arya of Delhi got the better of Assam boy Prateek Joy Phukan of Assam 9-4.

Fifth seed Zhaputso Khate of Nagaland blanked out Assam boy Yaminik I. Talukdar 9-0 and sixth seed Chengish Razadan Ahmed of Assam outplayed another Assam boy Satyam Bora 9-1.

Seventh seed Kautav Saikia of Assam faced some challenge from Nagaland boy Khriemetuo Peinyu for a 9-6 win and eighth seed Debashish Medhi of Assam survived a scare against Antaraag M. Gohain, also of Assam, for a 9-8 (7-2) win.

The boys’ doubles pre-quarterfinals were also played today where the tandem of Yaminik I. Talukdar and Nousi Kire overcame Khriemetuo Peinyu and Pelesetso Khate pair 4-0, 3-5, 10-8 and Megotsolie Khate and Jesse T. Tahe duo got the better of Anshuman Phukan and Anurag Borah 2-4, 4-2, 10-5.
