Guwahati, Dec. 7: Hosts Assam may ring in a few changes to their playing XI when they take on Himachal Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy match at Nehru Stadium here tomorrow.
The final XI will be announced tomorrow morning, but sources in the team management said opener Pallav Das might be replaced by Pritam Debnath and left-arm spinner Deepak Gohain or all-rounder Amit Sinha could step into the shoes of Gokul Sharma.
“The change in the opening slot has been mooted in view of the fact that Pallav Das has not been scoring in the first innings for the last five matches. First innings scores are always vital in Ranji Trophy cricket,” a source said.
Gokul Sharma hasn’t been among the runs this season and is down on confidence, the source added.
The extra spinner — alongside Syed Mohammad and Arlen Konwar — is being considered because of there was not much time to prepare the pitch. There could be last-minute changes to the playing XI because the team management will not finalise the team, but the selectors have been entrusted with this duty.
The hosts will be looking for a big win to boost their morale after having lost their last two matches against Services and Jammu and Kashmir. Himachal Pradesh, too, have lost their last match against Tripura and will bank on under-19 international Prashant Chopra and Paras Dogra apart from former Test player Akash Chopra.
