Argora police station ready

The new building of Argora police station, which is coming up a stone’s throw from the residence of Team India skipper and Ranchi lad Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is almost ready.

The Argora police station, which at present functions from a rented house at Ashok Nagar Colony, is likely to be shifted there soon.

Confirming the development, Ranchi senior superintendent of police Saket Kumar Singh said: “Argora police station will soon shift to the new building behind Dhoni’s residence.” However, he did not give any specific date.

“This apart, new buildings for shifting Ratu, Chutia and Lower Bazar police stations are also ready,” he added.

Spread over 3,000sqft, the double-storey new police station has room for constables, a chamber for the officer-in-charge, a computer room and space for keeping records. Jharkhand State Police Housing Corporation undertook construction work after Jharkhand State Housing Board provided the plot last December. A sum of Rs 69 lakh was spent.

The present address of Argora police station at Ashok Nagar Colony leaves much to be desired. Forget proper barracks, water seeps through the leaking roof in rainy season. Besides, there’s no proper place to stock the seized items. No wonder, the policemen are eager to shift.

“We will get proper barracks once we move to the new building, which will come as a huge relief for us,” said a constable.

An officer added that the location of the police station was so good that it would be easier to provide security to Dhoni, a VVIP, as his house is just 10 metres away. Notably, the police department had to face a lot of flak after a CCTV camera installed on the boundary wall of the cricketer’s house was stolen two years ago.

It will be also convenient to escort VIPs on Birsa Munda Rajmarg, also 10 metres away. BJP state headquarters is nearby too, hardly 50 metres from the police station. The localities that come under Argora police station are Argora, Ashok Nagar, Kadru and Harmu.
