Welcome notes: It was a day of music and masti at Presidency University with Icon, a student body, organising Icon Unplugged on September 26. The courtyard next to the canteen was decorated with glass bottles lit up with rice lights, origami figures and dim lights of different colours to set the mood. The afternoon saw a performance by the college band, Quad Baul. As the evening wore on, bonfires were lit, giving the gathering an even cosier feel. Singer Neel Adhikari was the first guest performer, followed by Calcutta-based band Fiddler’s Green, which had Arko Mukherjee on vocals, Diptanshu Roy on the mandolin, Shamik Chatterjee on bass and Ritoban Das on drums. They soon had the crowd grooving to their music and even the most serious ones couldn’t help but shake a leg.
“I have never seen the college look this beautiful in my two years here. I am loving it,” exclaimed Debadrita Saha of the sociology department.
The next day was reserved for a freshers’ welcome. After a whole day of dance, music and fun, the evening saw a jam-packed Derozio Hall swaying and jiving to a performance by Anjan Dutt, Neel Dutt and Amyt Datta, with Debopratim Bakshi on drums.

Disco deewane at DPS: Almost every student dreams of being crowned ‘student of the year’, but only a few — like those of Delhi Public School, Ruby Park — get to shake a leg with the ‘star’ students of the moment.
Bollywood newcomers Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, the hunks who star in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year (SOTY), were in town on Tuesday to promote their film that releases this Friday (October 19). The last stop of the day was DPS, Ruby Park, where not just students, even the teachers seemed super-excited to host the cute boys.
“We request the teachers to declare a holiday on Friday so that all the students can go and watch our movie,” quipped Varun while talking about his debut film.
“It is a fun-filled movie that all of you will love. Watch, dance, laugh and have fun,” said Siddharth. The duo then danced to The Disco Song and Vele from SOTY along with some DPS students.
“I am on cloud nine! I can’t believe I danced with Varun and Siddharth!” exclaimed Deboleena Mukherjee, a Class XI student. However, the kids really missed the leading lady of SOTY, Alia Bhatt. “I was looking forward to seeing her, she is SO cute! But we were told she is not well,” rued Piyush, another Class XI student.
