Second day of national soccer tourney

The All India Inter-Zonal Sports Authority of India (SAI) Football Tournament rolled into its second day on Thursday with four teams bagging semi-final slots after an intense day of on-field soccer action. The tournament is underway at Ranchiís Birsa Munda Football Stadium.

The teams that made the cut to the last four were SAI Imphal, SAI Guwahati, SAI east zone and SAI central zone.

Earlier during the first match of the day, SAI west zone locked horns and drubbed their central zone counterparts by a solitary goal. The west zone outfit pumped the lone goal in the 54th minute of the match.

The second match of the day saw SAI Imphal taking on SAI Chandigarh. Though not one sided, the match saw a flurry of goals with the Imphal team players finding the back of the Chandigarh goal four time in the sixth, 18th, 28th, and 65th minute respectively. Chandigarh had managed to put in a consolation goal in the ninth minute of the match, which proved to be their solitary strike.

The third match of the day saw SAI east zone taking on their central zone counterparts in a tight contest. Though both the sides attacked and showed some solid dribbling skills, it was the SAI central zone team that walked away as the winners of the contest, having managed to sneak in a goal in the 58th minute.

The fourth match, SAI Guwahati versus SAI Chandigarh, ended in a draw with neither team being able to manage any goals.

The semi-final matches is scheduled to start from2pm on Friday.

ďAll the matches are being played according to AIFF rules. The teams so far have exhibited quality spirit for the same,Ē said Ranchi SAI football coach Sunil Kumar.
