Three-day ISM fest kicks off

The three-day annual technical festival of ISM— Concetto 12 — began on Thursday with more than 300 students from technical institutes around the country participating in a host of events.

Associate professor in the department of mining engineering at ISM Dhiraj Kumar said 60 events had been scheduled at different venues of the institute including Upper Ground, Lower Ground, Penmann Auditorium, Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre, lecture hall complex, management stdies hall besides other department halls and laboratories.

There are students from NIT-Patna, NIT-Adityapur, IIT-Patna, IIT-Kharagpur, BIT-Sindri, BIT-Mesra, KIIT-Orissa, besides ISM participating.

Taking part in the robotics event titled Robo de Mario, Suraj Kumar, a first year student of BTech (environmental engineering), said each team had to let their robots titled Mario cross several hurdles to reach a particular destination.

Shanshank Kumar, a second year student of mining machinery who coordinated Robo De Mario said the contest was aimed at judging the efficiency, speed, strength and time of the robot made by the different teams.

In another event titled Evadobot, 32 teams comprising four students each got their aquatic robots to carry out pre-assigned tasks.

Earlier on Wednesday, general manager of Tata Steel (Jharia division) Sanjay Kumar Singh inaugurated the event in the presence of host of dignitaries including the director of the institute Dr Durga Charan Panigrahi, dean of student welfare Sukumar Laik and others.
