Suchitra undergoes wrist surgery

Suchitra Sen was released from a private hospital in the city on Friday night after surgery on her left wrist, which she had fractured in a fall.

The screen icon, who has shunned the public eye for over three decades, was admitted to Belle Vue Clinic on Thursday night and underwent surgery shortly after.

According to sources, Sen fell in her Ballygunge Circular Road home on Tuesday morning. “Her left wrist was fractured and dislocated. She underwent minor surgery under general anaesthesia,” said an official at the hospital, where Sen was admitted under critical care expert Subrata Maitra.

“She is stable now but we are keeping her under observation,” added the official on Friday afternoon. During the surgery, the fractured bone was tied with a wire that will not be removed. Sen’s wrist was plastered and she was given antibiotics.

Moon Moon Sen visited her mother in her private cabin at the hospital on Thursday and Friday.

In 2010, Sen had been admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory distress caused by a chest infection.

The oxygen level in her blood had gone down to 60 per cent, against the normal of 90. She had taken several days to recover.

Earlier, she had injured her knee after falling down at home and had to be hospitalised.
