Blame game follows attack

Patna, Sept. 28: The RJD and JD(U) today locked horns over successive incidents of violence during the chief minister’s Adhikar Yatra.

JD(U) spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari alleged: “We condemn the attack on Nitish Kumar’s convoy yesterday in Khagaria. It is the conspiracy of the RJD, LJP and Congress leaders.”

In Saharsa today, Nitish looked unperturbed: “Some people are trying to remove me from power. I am seeking the rights of the 10 crore people of Bihar and some people are instigating their supporters to throw stones.”

Tiwari added: “Nitish’s car was bullet-proof or else he would have lost his life.”

When asked about former MLA Ranvir Yadav, the husband of Khagaria JD(U) legislator Poonam Devi, who was seen with a gun and brandishing a lathi, Tiwari said: “I am not justifying his act. But you cannot ignore that at the same place, the vehicles of the chief minister and the director-general of police were attacked.”

JD(U) state president Bashishtha Narayan Singh said: “The Opposition is frustrated and their acts are coming out in the form of violence.” Nitish retorted in Saharsa: “But their wish will not be fulfilled as they have been rejected by the people.”

However, the RJD refuted the allegations. “No party has the power to create such a jan akrosh (people’s anger), which we have witnessed at various meetings of Nitish’s Adhikar Yatra,” Abdul Bari Siddiqui, the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said, adding that it was the failure of the state’s intelligence and police.
