The driver took the route 202 bus (travelling from Topsia to Nagerbazar) to South Dum Dum Municipal Hospital in Nagerbazar, where 45-year-old Pulak Banerjee was declared dead. Banerjees family members quoted some passengers as saying that the stone had been thrown by one of the youths with whom the conductor had an altercation moments before.
The driver in his complaint, however, said a vagabond had thrown the stone. We are looking at all possibilities, said Kalyan Mukherjee, deputy commissioner, detective department, Barrackpore City Police.

The conductor ducked and the stone hit Pulak on his head.
