Kaveri does a double

N-E badminton

Guwahati, Sept. 6: Shuttler Kaveri Phukan of Assam clinched double crowns as Assam dominated the Northeast zone open badminton championship that concluded in Gangtok yesterday.

Kaveri clinched the womenís singles crown by defeating statemate Bornali Konwar 21-14, 21-8 and teamed up with Abantika Deka to get defeat the Nagaland duo of Prathana and Uma Tamang 21-17, 21-10.

In the menís singles final, Hirak Jyoti Neog of Assam defeated W. James of Manipur 21-11, 21-11 while in the boyís singles, Assamís Rishav Sharma got the better of Laldin Puia of Mizoram 21-15, 21-9.

In the girlsí (under-19) singles final, Ashmita Chaliha of Assam outlasted statemate Ningshi B. Hazarika 21-13, 19-21, 21-12 in a thriller.

In the menís doubles final, the duo of Anjan and Ranjan Buragohain had little trouble in defeating Manipurís H. Kishan and L. Momo 21-15, 21-11

In the boysí doubles final, Assamís Kashyap Neog and Nitish Bora defeated Manipurís R.K. Devojit and Yaitombi 21-10, 22-20, while in the girlsí doubles final, Assamís Harshita Chaliha and Bornali Konwar defeated the Aruna-chal tandem of Pinki Karki and Taring Yania 24-22, 23-21.

Ranking TT: Jorhat Table Tennis Association is organising the 7th Hiren Baruah Memorial All Assam major ranking table tennis championships at Swahid Kushal Konwar indoor stadium in Jorhat from tomorrow to Sunday.
