United pip Digrik 1-0

Nagaon, Sept. 4: United Council Youth Club defeated Digrik Sporting Club 1-0 in a first round match of the 8th Chief Executive Member Cup football tournament, organised by Dima Hasao District Sports Association at its N.L. Daulogupu sports complex in Haflong today.

The match was a goalless draw till the end of the first half.

United Council striker Lalvung Thangneo’s three beautiful attempts in the eighth, 10th and 19th minutes failed to bring a goal. Digrik goalkeeper Ripunjoy Naiding skilfully saved Thangneo’s first two attempts. His third free kick touched the goalpost.

In the 33rd minute, Digrik midfielder Imanuel R. Biate missed a chance as the ball passed by striker Vikrom Chhetry was skilfully captured by rival midfielder Seiminlen Lhangum.

In the 60th minute, United midfielder Micheal Guite hit home to score the only goal of the match, receiving a pass from striker Lalvung Thangneo.

Despite rain all through the afternoon, hundreds of soccer lovers from different parts of Dima Hasao district gathered at the sports complex. Bangsodao Memorial Football Club, Umrangsu, will meet Nivar Club, Haflong in another first round match tomorrow.
