Gold rush for Kamrup boys

DISTRICT SCHOOL JUDO

Guwahati, Aug. 23: Kamrup (metro) judokas bagged four gold medals in the under-16 category of the inter-district school judo tournament at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here today.

Rahul Panjiyar, Akash Das, Md Muktar Ahmed and Deep Jyoti Haloi bagged gold in the below-40kg, below-45kg, below-50kg and below-55kg weight categories respectively.

However, in the below-60kg and above 71kg categories, Karbi Anglong’s Tapan Swargiary and Priyamble Baglary bagged gold respectively.

In the under-16 girls’ event, Dibrugarh and Karbi Anglong shared the honours in terms of the gold haul. Lipika Hazarika (below-36kg), Papori Sarmah (below-40kg), Stuti Khisa (below-44kg) and Mili Barman (below-48kg) — all from Dibrugarh — bagged gold.

Karbi Anglong’s Ranjita Basumatary, Jyotsna Boro, Gargi Basumatary and Juli Borah won gold in the below-52kg, below-56kg, below-61kg and above-61kg respectively.

Taekwondo: In the inter-district school (under-16) taekwondo meet at the same venue, Amarjyoti Morang of Tinsukia bagged gold in the over-64kg while Julie Baruah of Kamrup (metro) clinched gold in the 56kg-60kg category.
