Tax returns deadline

New Delhi, Aug. 1: The government has extended the last date for filing of all income tax returns for 2011-12 by a month. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the due date of filing all returns for assessment year 2012-13, which were due on July 31, to August 31, 2012, an official statement said.

Fed policy

Washington, Aug. 1: The Federal Reserve has said the US economic recovery had lost momentum so far this year, but stopped short of offering new monetary stimulus even as it signaled that further bond buys could be in store.

Core growth

New Delhi, Aug. 1: The growth of eight core sectors slipped to 3.6 per cent in June, weighed down by contraction in natural gas, fertiliser and steel output. The key infrastructure sectors had grown 5.6 per cent in the same month last year.


New Delhi, Aug. 1: India today allowed foreign direct investment from Pakistan except in strategic sectors of defence, space and atomic energy. The FDI proposals from Pakistan will need clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board.

Jet fuel price

New Delhi, Aug. 1: Oil firms today raised jet fuel prices by 4.5 per cent on firming of prices in the global market. The price of jet fuel in Delhi was hiked by Rs 2,797.41 per kilolitre, or 4.5 per cent, to Rs 65,005.59.

Skill school

Calcutta, Aug. 1: IL&FS Skill Development Corporation, a joint venture between IL&FS and the National Skill Development Corporation, has entered into an agreement with Webel to open a skill school in Calcutta for the IT/ITeS sector.
