Vigilance lens on cop

Bhubaneswar: Berhampur vigilance on Wednesday registered a case against Panchanan Majhi, assistant sub-inspector of police, for demanding illegal gratification of Rs 7,000 from one Sushil Kumar Bhoi of Adenigarh village, Boudh, for not to implicate him in an atrocity case. In course of probe, a trap was laid by the vigilance officers and the cop was caught red handed. He has been arrested.

Ghadei mishap

Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei escaped unhurt when the vehicle in which he was travelling hit a speeding motorbike coming from the opposite direction in the city.

Although no one was injured in the incident, both the vehicles were damaged.

Special trains

Bhubaneswar: The ministry of railways has decided to run another special train between Shalimar and Chennai. Shalimar-Chennai-Shalimar summer special train will leave Shalimar on Tuesdays to arrive at Chennai on Wednesdays between May 1 and June 12.

During itís return, this train will leave Chennai on Thursdays to reach Shalimar on Fridays.

The train will stop at Santragachhi, Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Duvvada, Rajahmundry, Elluru, Vijaywada and Gudur.


Sambalpur: Twenty councillors of the Sambalpur Municipality have moved a no-confidence motion against their chairperson, Reena Trivedi. The municipality is a 29-member council.

This is the second time when the councillors have moved a motion for no-confidence against the chairperson. A meeting on this motion has been fixed up on May 7.


Bhubaneswar: Kloud9, a national magazine for school children, was launched here on Wednesday. The first issue of the magazine was released by Padma Vibhushan Mahasweta Devi. Narendra Jadhav, member of Planning Commission of India and National Advisory Council, Sunil Gangopadhyay, president of the Kendriya Sahitya Academy, and eminent poet and novelist Ruskin Bond was present at a ceremony. Kloud9, a literary venture, will be published by KiiT International School.


Jajpur: Perturbed over long spells of low voltage and power cuts in their areas, residents of Sobara and Paikarapur under the Vyas Nagar municipality on Wednesday ransacked the Nesco office at Jajpur Road and assaulted executive engineer Rajeev Nayak.

The injured engineer has been admitted to local hospital.The residents alleged that they were beaten up first by the engineer inside the latterís chamber while a four member delegation was discussing their problem with him.
