Kongpal drub Yairipok

Imphal, April 19: Kongpal ISAV thrashed Yairipok UMO by 4-1 goals in the 14th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Both teams struggled in the first half but Kongpal ISAV broke the deadlock when N. Itocha Singh quick-fired two goals in the 39th minute and 45th minutes. T. Shyam Singh netted home another goal in the 49th minute to dominate the proceedings.

Mahendra Thapa created more trouble for Yairipok, as he slammed home his team’s fourth goal in the 55th minute to dominate the match by four goals. Sakhogin came up with Yairipok’s lone goal in the 59th minute, but it was not enough to save the day.

In the other match, Nambol NAVSA and Lilong Chajing UVSA had a goalless draw to split a point each.

MCA cricket

Blue Hawk Khurai pulled off a 10-run victory against Youth Welfare Club Langthabal in the MCA Classification Tournament at Luwangpokpa cricket ground today.

Blue Hawk, winning the toss, opted to bat first and scored 114/10 in 35 overs with Guniram Singh making 28 runs and Sultan cracking 21 runs. Youth Welfare Club bowler Tejkumar Singh claimed three wickets, while Shashikanta Singh and Biswash took two wickets.

YWC Langthabal batsman Shashikanta cracked 41 runs.

Bishorjit Singh contributed 12 runs, but fell short by 10 runs, as they were bowled out for 104/10 from 29.1 overs. Jitendra Singh proved to the chief wrecker for the YWC team, claiming four wickets to bag the Man of the Match award. Jackychand took three wickets, while Guniram and Sultan fetched a wicket each.
