Jorhat take lead

Guwahati, Feb. 28: Jorhat today took a comfortable 65-run first innings lead with eight wickets intact at close of the first day of their two-day Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district plate group super league match against Bongaigaon at Nehru Stadium here. Bongaigaon elected to bat first.

Jorhat offie Dayal Krishna Dutta wreaked havoc to bowl out the Bongaigaon batsmen for a modest first innings total of 140 in 51.2 overs.

Jorhat were 205 for two in 42 overs when stumps were drawn for the day.

Kiran Parshipally scored 33, with five hits to the fence, and Anup Ghosh, 33, with three boundaries, were the notable scorers for the Bongaigaon side. Arindam Ghosh chipped in with a useful knock of 16, with three boundaries.

Dutta hauled five wickets conceding 39 runs. Ishtiak Ali and Abhishek Krishna took two each for 30 and 31 respectively.

For Jorhat, Ritesh Paul was batting on 88,, along with Abhishek Krishna on 51, comrrising eight hits to the fence, when play was called off for the day. Opener Manash Pratim Borthakur contributed 25.

Amit Basfore and Manish Das of Bongaigaon claimed a wicket each this afternoon.
