10-hour bandh today

Kokrajhar, Dec. 28: The Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilita Mancha (Koch Rajbongshi United Forum), an umbrella organisation of the Koch Rajbongshi community, has called a 10-hour Assam bandh tomorrow, in demand for a separate Kamtapur state and Scheduled Tribe status.

Biswajit Roy, chief convener of the forum, said the bandh would be held from 6am to 4pm on Thursday.

However, he said the educational institutions, medical and other emergency services would not be included in the purview of the bandh.

Roy, who is also the president of the All Koch Rajbonghshi Students’ Union, said the student body had been campaigning in Upper Assam district for the past six days to build a platform for a joint movement with six other communities that have also been demanding ST status in Assam.

“It is the last agitation programme of the year and the agenda for the next year would be decided on January 5,” Roy said.
