Montfort boys, Fairyland win

Guwahati, Nov. 13: Six scalps, including a hattrick, by seamer Jyotirmoy Das went in vain as Maria’s Public School went down by 79 runs to Montfort School in the 6th All-Assam Parijat Mazumdar and Rooby Group under-14 inter-school cricket tournament at Latasil playground here today.

Despite the morning nip, Montfort opted to bat and posted 120 for nine in 20 overs.

Middle order bat Ratul Dey steadied the innings with 32 off 28 balls after opener Dipjyoti was dismissed for 23.

Dhurba Mech chipped in with 12. The highlight of Maria’s bowling was Jyotirmoy’s magical spell of six for nine runs, which comprised a hattrick. Drishyant Goswami bagged two for 22.

In reply, Maria’s made a mess of their chase as they were skittled out for 41 in 13.4 overs. The Montfort bowlers hunted in pairs as off-spinners Ratul Dey (three wickets for two runs) and Yubraj Neopane (three wickets for 12 runs) wreaked havoc.

Earlier, Fairyland High School posted a facile 47-run win over Dreamland School.

Fairyland opted to bat and put 134 for eight on the board in 20 overs. Amit Kumar Singh struck a blistering 55. Dreamland tweakers Mrinjul Dutta and Rohit Sarma bagged took wickets each.

However, Dreamland were bundled out for 87 in 18.2 overs. Madhusudan Kafle and Sonu Shakuwa bagged two wickets each for Fairyland.
