Maoists arrested

Dibrugarh, Aug. 17: Five Maoist cadres along with arms and ammunition were arrested today by a team of Arunachal Pradesh police, Assam police and personnel from the army’s 26 Maratha Light Infantry in Namsai subdivision in Lohit district.

The sub-divisional police officer of Namsai, S.B. Gohain, said two Maoists — Sanjib Dhadumia and Lotik Moran — were arrested from Mahadevpur police station last evening. Both activists are from Kakopathar.

“After interrogation of the duo, we arrested three more rebels from Namsai and also seized arms and ammunition,” Gohain said.

The three rebels who were arrested later are Sanjib Moran, Biswajit Baruah from Chabua in Dibrugarh and Debojit Borgohain of Guijan in Tinsukia. A .32mm pistol, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, a diary and letterheads were found at Sanjib Moran’s residence. Biswajit and Debojit were also arrested from Moran’s residence.
