Inter-state AC buses by month end

Patna, Aug. 12: Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is likely to launch an inter-city luxury air-conditioned (AC) bus service between Bihar and Jharkhand by the end of this month.

A total of 92 AC buses are proposed to run on 17 different routes in and outside the state. While 10 of these routes would connect Patna with the other district headquarters in the state, seven routes would take citizens from Patna, Gaya and Bhagalpur to three district headquarters in neighbouring Jharkhand (Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Daltenganj). The permits for the Bihar-Jharkhand routes have been obtained by BSRTC and the corporation is waiting for the buses to be delivered.

“We have already received the permit for running 32 AC luxury buses from the state transport authorities of Bihar and Jharkhand respectively for running the interstate bus service. The service would start as soon as we get the buses which is most likely to happen by the end of this month,” said a senior official of BSRTC on condition of anonymity.

He added that the permit of remaining 60 buses is still awaited.

The official added that the new buses would be from big companies, including Volvo and Mercedes Benz.

According to department documents, the agreement between the service provider and BSRTC is for 10 years and the buses would operate from the BSRTC bus depot.
