HC stay on Rizwanur case trial

The high court on Thursday extended till September 12 the stay on starting a trial against brothers Ashok and Pradip Todi in the Rizwanur Rahman death case.

Justice A.K. Ray, in his order on Thursday, adjourned the hearing of the appeals moved by the Todis demanding quashing of a subordinate court’s decision to start trial against them for allegedly abetting Rizwanur’s suicide.

The court also adjourned the hearing of the appeal moved by Rizwanur’s brother Rukbanur challenging the legality of the subordinate court’s decision not to implicate three police officers in the case. Both the appeals will be heard on August 17.

Girls flee: Three teenage girls are missing from a state-run Liluah home for destitutes. Police said the trio had slipped out through a broken window and scaled the boundary wall.
