Feathered and winged strokes

A group show of paintings featuring images of birds, The Aviary brings together a number of man’s feathered friends depicted in modes both traditional and contemporary. From humble and ubiquitous crows to anthropomorphic owls, from exotic sandpipers to extinct dodos, the show tries to capture these unique creatures which have the ability to delight, enthrall and even terrify. Going beyond mere depictions, the show also makes us aware of the impending dangers that some of these species face. Participating artists: Atin Basak, Sagar Bhoumick, Jayashree Chakravarty, Jogen Chowdhury, Sunil Das, Debabrata Hazra (a painting by him appears here), Puran Singh Jhala, Mahjabin Majumdar, Avijit Mukherjee, Katayun Saklat, Mithu Sen and Shuvaprasanna.
