One shot after land fight

Raiganj, June 22: A 33-year-old resident of Dakshin Saharoi village was injured after he was shot twice this afternoon during an altercation over the possession of a plot of land in the area.

Police said Parimal Ghosh and his father Nirmal owned a two-cottah plot in the village, 5km from here, but few youths of the area claimed that they own the land. Today when Parimal was returning home from the field few men fired at him. Parimal was taken to the district hospital here with bullet injuries in the back and head. He was later referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Parimal has lodged an FIR against three villagers. No one has been arrested yet.


Jalpaiguri/Siliguri: One person was killed and a seven-year-old boy was injured in two separate accidents in Rajganj and Siliguri on Wednesday. Md Nizamuddin, 52, a resident of Rajganj, died after he was knocked down by a BSF vehicle at Zahuri-Talma on NH31D. After the accident, residents of the area blocked the highway for an hour. The blockade was lifted around 5pm after police arrival. In another incident, Ajay Burman was injured when a bus hit him at Jhankar More in Siliguri on Wednesday. The boy has been admitted to a nursing home here. The vehicle has been seized and the driver detained.

Truck crash

Islampur: Four persons were injured when two trucks collided near Srikrishnapur on NH31 on Wednesday. The injured persons have been admitted to the Islampur subdivisional hospital. Both the vehicles have been seized.

Teen kills self

Islampur: Mansur Alam, 15, committed suicide by consuming poison at his house in Asaru Busty near Chopra on Tuesday night.

Python found

Jaigaon: Residents of Ramjhora Tea Estate in Jalpaiguri district trapped a 14-feet long python from the garden on Wednesday. The snake was later handed over to the foresters of Dalgaon range and was released in the Khuttimari forest.
