Faulty Colin shoots a 20-year low

Newport: Europe’s successful 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie departed from the scene of his team's triumph in dejected mood on Friday.

The eight-time European No.1 had his worst regular European Tour showing for 20 years as he plummeted out of the Wales Open at Celtic Manor 15 over par, sharing bottom place in the field.

His rounds of 78 and 79 gave him his worst aggregate since the 1991 Benson and Hedges International.

Atwal fails

Dublin: Arjun Atwal shot a lacklustre one-over 73 to be tied 67th after the opening round of the PGA Tour's Memorial Golf Championship here.

Atwal sent down three birdies against four bogeys.

Poor show

Maryland: Rahil Gangjee opened with a two-over 73 on the first day of the Melwood Prince George’s County Open here. He finish at 73 in tied 111th place.
