Train derails near Haflong

Nagaon: A Badarpur-bound goods train derailed near Lower Haflong railway station on Sunday afternoon after some unidentified goons removed fishplates from the tracks. The incident comes on the third day of the 100-hour Dima Hasao district bandh called by the Indigenous Students Asociation. Police said the track inside a forest was damaged. The engine of the train derailed while the rakes remained on the track. This is the first untoward incident registered during the bandh which will end at 9pm on Tuesday.

Rail timing

Jorhat: Koliabor MP Dip Gogoi has urged railway minister Mamata Banerjee to make arrangements for all major long-distance trains, originating from Upper Assam, to pass through Jorhat and Golaghat towns. In a letter, Gogoi also urged the minister to change the timing of Intercity Jorhat-Guwahati train, which leaves at 4am from Jorhat, to 6am.


Jorhat: The indefinite economic blockade launched against Nagaland by the All Assam Gorkha Students' Union at Namtola in Sivasagar district on Saturday had been called off after talks between officials of Mon and Sivasagar districts and representatives of the Gorkha students' body at Sonari on Sunday.

Jorhat: The AGP’s Jorhat district unit formed a minority cell of the party on Sunday.


Jorhat: A marathon was organised from Pholani to Garmur in Majuli on Sunday to create awareness among the youths to cast their votes in the ensuing Assembly elections.


Imphal: Police today arrested seven cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (Lalheiba) involved in exploding an IED at Talipati in Imphal East on Friday night from different parts of Manipur valley.

Students caned

Sichar: Fifteen students of a college at Nilampazar under Karimganj district suffered minor injuries on Saturday after they were allegedly caned by the CRPF, which was deployed there to remove picketers who had blockaded NH 44.
