Fake cop robs contractor

Patna, Sept. 24: Think twice before allowing strangers to step in to your car even if they identify themselves as cops. A contractor of Khagaria area today learnt this in hard way.

A person posing as a policeman stopped the car of the contractor, Ram Singh, and vanished with his Rs 1.88 lakh. A biker helped the criminal in accomplishing his mission. A search is on arrest the duo.

The weird incident occurred near Bahadurpur bridge under the Kadamkuan police station around 1pm.

Sources said Singh was coming to the city in his car with one of his associates. He was carrying Rs 1.88 lakh. His driver was in the wheel.

Around 3km away from the city, a man posing as a cop stopped his car. Deputy superintendent of police (town) Sheela Irani told The Telegraph: “The impostor told the victim that he would be reprimanded as his vehicle did not have a plate bearing its registration number.” As per the statement given by the victim, his associate and his driver, they were scared when the fake cop questioned them.

“After interrogating the trio for a few minutes, the fake cop got into the car and asked them to drive to the police station. After a while, he asked them to stop because he wanted to check the vehicle’s papers.” After the car came to a halt, the fraud got down and stopped a passing biker.

“The fake cop ordered Ram’s aide to sit on the bike between him and the biker with the money as well as the papers of the car. The cheat asked Ram to follow them to the ‘nearby’ police station on foot. He asked the driver to be seated in the car,” Irani said.

The trickster told the biker to stop at a deserted place. “He asked Ram’s friend to go back and guide Ram to the spot. The cheat told him he would be waiting there. He asked the biker to leave as well. By the time the duo returned, the duper had vanished,” the officer said.
