Jamshedpur, April 23: Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) customers will soon be able to check their bills at the click of a mouse and avail of all its services as the board gears up to go online.
Bangalore-based Wipro Technologies in its report to the state-run power board has suggested online connectivity to save time and introduce transparency in its functioning, leading consumers to also check their bill details.
“JSEB is reviewing the report submitted by Wipro recently. The board had appointed the IT company a few months ago for suggestions on how to make the department computer-savvy,” said C.D. Kumar, the chief engineer of JSEB.
The online facility will enable fast and proper assessment of meter-reading, transmission loss, financial condition and other related details of the board,” said Kumar.
Officials said that the online facility would network all the six area boards of JSEB, which would help the chairman to get all details related to production, distribution, and transmission at the headquarters itself.
Moreover, the general managers of the area boards would also be able to interact with the headquarters more efficiently.
On the basis of the report, the JSEB now plans to appoint six private agencies to roll out the project. “After the beginning of the IT-enabled services, the board would be able to check power theft, too. The higher authority would be able to see the graph of the allotted power and consumption pattern, which would help them pinpoint where the power is being lost and how much,” said Kumar.
