ASC emerge best

Calcutta: Army Service Corps (ASC) clinched the Carmichael Cup with a half-goal advantage over hosts Calcutta Port Trust-Navy on Sunday. The Dhruvpal Godara-led ASC thus avenged their league match defeat against the rivals.

Down 3-6, last year’s runners-up ASC scored three goals through Lt. Col. NS Khera (two) and Godara (one) in the final chukka to edge past the CPC-Navy combine. Godara, who has represented India in two World Cups, finished with two goals while Col Tarsem Singh and Major Faiz Siddiqui completed the scoreline.

ASC had a handicap of eight compared to CPC-Navy’s nine so they received a half-goal advantage. For CPC-Navy, Manupal Godara scored a hattrick while Lt Col Pandher, Khader Siddique and Cmdr. A.P. Singh scored one each.

Earlier KingFisher A (Red) beat KingFisher B (White) 4-2 to win the Kingfisher Airlines Cup.
