Prosenjit-Swastika in Greftar

After gifting Mithun Chakraborty two back-to-back hits (Minister Fatakesto and Tiger), Swapan Saha has tried to work his charm on Prosenjit’s sagging mainstream fortunes with Greftar.

It’s the same old story peppered with action, fiery dialogues, song-and-dance and disastrous item number, from Minister to Greftar.

As a righteous cop, Prosenjit fights corruption within the police force. His biggest enemy is superintendent Ashish Vidyarthi, who wears a horrible wig and makes too much noise. The little time that Prosenjit gets in between bashing up the baddies is spent wooing Swastika. Despite that, the poor girl doesn’t get more than three brief scenes and a song around the trees. But there’s no missing Locket. She’s Prosenjit’s protective elder (!) sister whose job is to shed copious tears when emotions run high.

Saha has packed almost all the scenes with action; so, there’s little respite from Prosenjit’s power punches. Top it with fiery dialogues — “Or hargulo guro kore chowmein baniye de, ami dabbay bhore diye ashbo” — and you have the crowd going “Daaroon! Daaroon!”.

Performance-wise, with Prosenjit what you expect is what you get. It’s Ashish Vidyarthi who goes completely over-the-top. Besides, he still needs to work on his Bengali diction. Only Sudip Banerjee is worth a watch as the corrupt MLA. The film is not. Worth a watch, that is.
