Heirok club move to quarters

Imphal, Nov. 26: A goalless draw against Renkai Athletic and Cultural Club, Churchandpur, today saw City Club, Heirok, move into the quarterfinals of the 51st Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE memorial football tournament.

The match was played at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Both the teams started on an attacking note and kept up the pace throughout the match. The Renkai players got several chances, but failed to score owing to the lack of proper finishing. The City Club players also missed some opportunities.

The draw ensured the City Club a berth in the meet quarterfinal. City Club had earlier beaten Youth Organisation and Sporting Club 1-0, while Renkai suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Youth Organisation.

In another match today, Manipur Brothers Sporting Union beat Kangchup Road Youth and Physical Sporting Association 3-1.

O. Inaocha of Manipur Brothers scored the first goal for his team in the 20th minute. S. Kishen Singh scored the equaliser for Kangchup Road from a right flank pass by L. Henery in the 32nd minute.

However, Manipur Brothers fought back and regained control of the match. Boithang Haokip scored twice within a span of seven minutes to ensure a big victory for his team. Haokip scored the winning goal for his team in the 77th minute.
