Imphal, Nov. 3: A crude bomb exploded in a shoe store at Paona Bazaar here at 5pm today.
The injured shopowner, Pankaj Jain, and Romen, a salesman, have been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
Police said some identified persons hurled the bomb. There was no customer at the store at the time of the blast. No one has been arrested in this connection.
The blast took place when Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh was presiding over a cabinet meeting convened to review the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
A source said that the cabinet took serious note of the rise in incidents of killing and abduction of officials and also the attacks on the residence of a minister and a senior official yesterday.
Militants of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council) hurled a hand grenade at the residence of social welfare minister N. Loken Singh at Sangaiprou in Imphal West district last night.
In a separate incident yesterday, militants of the outfit attacked the Hodam Leirak residence of social welfare director A. Nabachandra Singh with a grenade at night. The grenade hit the wall of the house and exploded on impact. No one was injured in the two explosions.
The cabinet has decided to strengthen the security of ministers, MLAs and officials.
