Somnath, Abhishek in title clash

Somnath Chakraborty will take on Abhishek Ghosh in the menís singles final of the Freedy Manook table tennis championship, currently underway at the Harish Park Bayam Samity. Somnath beat Ananda Ganguly while Abhishek defeated Koushik Das in the semi-finals.

RESULTS (semi-finals): Menís singles: Somnath Chakraborty bt Ananda Ganguly 11-5, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4; Abhishek Ghosh bt Koushik Das 11-7, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5. Cadet girls: Ria Dutta bt Rivika Biswas 11-2, 11-6, 11-4; Moumita Sarker bt Ipshita Mukherjee 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-4.

Junior cricket

Garia Srirampur Kalyan Samity notched up a huge 214-run win over Debdas Banerjee CCC in a CAB junior (110 points) cricket tournament match at Rajpur ground on Friday.


Garia Srirampur Kalyan Samity 328 in 73.4 ovs. Debdas Banerjee CCC 114 in 30 ovs (Sumit Das 2/27, Sourav Seal 2/6, Biswajit Sardar 2/19). Garia Srirampur Kalyan Samity won by 214 runs.

Haldia rally

The Bengal Motor Sports Club will organise the 2nd Haldia Utsab Rally. The first leg will be flagged off at 8 am at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday, while the second leg will start from Golden Retreat Hotel, Haldia, on Monday. A total prize money of Rs 141,750 will be up for grabs.


Railway face Maharshtra in the final of the National Womenís Handball Championship. In the semi-finals, Railways defeated Chhattisgarh 26-10, while Maharashtra pipped Manipur 28-20.
