Gang steals Rs 3 lakh

Cooch Behar, Sept. 29: A group of youths entered the house of Bijendra Debsharma, a contractor with the irrigation department, around 8.45 pm today on the pretext of collecting Puja subscription and looted Rs 3 lakh.

At the time of the incident, Bijendra's wife Sumita was alone at home and she fainted when the robbers forced their way into the house.


Godown fire

Balurghat: A portion of a jute godown in the Raghunathpur area of the town was gutted when a fire broke out on Thursday morning. Four engines of the fire brigade and BSF jawans were pressed into action to control the fire. No one was injured in the incident.


Bridge

Gangtok: The 87 RCC of the Border Roads Organisation has repaired the bridge between Singtam and Ranipul and opened NH 31A to heavy vehicles on Thursday.


6 arrested

Alipurduar: Six persons were arrested at Dhulagaon under Falakata police station on Thursday evening for allegedly helping KLO militant Ranjit Roy alias Gobindo Rava and KLO activist Biplab Roy to enter Bangladesh 10 days ago.


Gold Cup

Gangtok: The DGHC team was on Thursday routed by BSF Jallandhar 4-0 in the third pre-quarter match of the Governor's Gold Cup. Bhutan XI will face Eleven Gorkha Rifles on Friday.
