Jamshedpur, Aug. 9: With Independence Day round the corner, Tata Steel is celebrating the week, beginning from today, as the National Integration Week, reports our correspondent.
A 25-member team of folk artistes and dancers are visiting the city to perform in a week-long programme. The celebrations were kicked off today at the Community Development and Social Welfare Centre in Sonari.
The troupe would perform at several schools in the city during coming week.
Usually, the troupe, under the ministry of information and broadcasting, uses entertainment as a medium of communication and spreads awareness about the various government policies in the remote parts of the country.
The troupe was first started after the Indo-China war in 1967 to stop cultural infiltration from across the border.
A troupe member said that before every show they research and prepare a flawless package, as most of their audiences are generally rural people with little or no education.
Moreover, he added, the troupe generally deals with sensitive issues such as AIDS, post-natal care and population explosion, which have social relevant also.
