Azad to head 4-man party
- Home ministry bolsters security team

New Delhi: It will be Yashovardhan Azad to head the team of security officers to Pakistan. Azad, the Intelligence Bureau joint director (security) who was part of the BCCI recce mission to Pakistan last month, will accompany the Indian squad on its 40-day tour of Pakistan along with three senior officials.

The other members of the team are Azadís deputy, DIG Dharmendra Kumar, Delhi Police additional commissioner Manoj Lal and additional deputy commissioner Prabhakar.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has intimated the four officials about their appointment but is yet to apprise them of their exact role. They would be briefed about their mission a couple of days before the teamís departure.

According to sources, the four-member team would liaison with Pakistan authorities on the security of Indian cricketers. The entire responsibility would be the Pakistan governmentís, Azadís team will, at best, offer suggestions to plug any possible loophole.

It is not known why the government decided to send four officers rather than three which it had initially agreed to.

The MHA had told the BCCI that a three-man team would accompany Sourav Gangulyís contingent. But after deliberations with the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), MHA decided to send a bigger team.
