Cape Town: Former South Africa captain Kepler Wessels was found not guilty of racism on Wednesday by a disciplinary tribunal of the Eastern Province Cricket Union where he is coach.
“Kepler had the hearing on Tuesday and the judgement was made this afternoon — he was found not guilty,” EPCU chief executive officer David Emslie said. “We are awaiting the full judgement papers but we know he has been found not guilty.”
Wessels was accused by two black players in his squad of calling them “animals” at a net practice on October 23 but he denied the claim. A sworn affidavit from a third player who was supposed to have witnessed the comment said it had never been made. (Reuters)
